Temple B'nai Shalom a small but active Congregation in Southwest Michigan
Benton Harbor & St. Joe's Premier Synagogue

Temple B’nai Shalom maintains two cemeteries within a half-mile of each other on Crystal and Napier Avenues in Benton Township, near Interstate 94.

Temple Beth-El Memorial Park on Napier originally served the needs of members of the former Reform congregation, Temple Beth-El, and is maintained in that tradition.

B’nai Sholom Cemetery on Crystal, which includes a section for the former Orthodox congregation, Ohava Sholom, continues to serve the needs of the Conservative Jewish community.

The congregation's standard Jewish funeral package was arranged by the Ritual Committee with Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home (269-556-9450) in St. Joseph.

Funeral Guide

A funeral guide, available to Temple members, has been prepared to offer solace and comfort to those faced with the ultimate loss – death.

We recognize that many families are unaware of the traditions that surround each aspect of life, or choose to follow only some Jewish practices. This guide is meant to acquaint the reader with what our tradition teaches, to provide information which has helped thousands of generations of our people at a time of grief and sorrow.

To obtain a copy of the guide, please call the Temple office, 269-925-8021.

Anyone needing to make funeral arrangements should call the Temple office. If the office is closed, the recorded message will state whom to contact.
